Press release of the press conference “AIDS Memorial Day “

On the 14th of May in Lviv, Zyhzah str., 5 Charity Foundation Salus has organized a press conference dedicated to AIDS Memorial Day

The conference agenda included estimation of HIV/AIDS epidemiological situation in Ukraine and Lviv region. The chief doctor of Lviv Regional AIDS Centre Maryana Sluzhynska emphasized the high increase rate of HIV incidence in Lviv region. During the first quarter of this year 143 new HIV cases were registered in Lviv region, compared to 78 ones registered during the same quarter of the previous year.

Among other topics the attendees discussed the problem of healthy life style enhancing, and conclusions of a survey provided among Lviv city population dealing with condom and lubricant usage. The survey was carried out by Ukrainian Sociological Centre “SocioInform”.

Charity Foundation Salus staff presented first results of the project “Living library” aimed against discrimination and stigmatization of persons vulnerable to HIV infection. On the 10th of May in city Lviv during Salus action 130 persons had possibility to talk to representatives of different vulnerable groups – victims of prejudice, discrimination and social isolation. Salus staff emphasized the importance of HIV testing and told about activities of Salus mobile ambulatory for HIV and STI’s testing.
