HIV testing during several minutes

Lviv region citizens who wish to know their health status and are representatives of vulnerable groups (commercial sex business women and injecting drug users) can anonymously go for HIV testing carried out at the mobile ambulatory, which was granted by “International Alliance on HIV/AIDS in Ukraine to “Charity Foundation Salus”.

The mobile ambulatory is intended for providing HIV and STI testing and delivery of medical, counselling and psychological services to vulnerable groups. The mobile ambulatory staff includes a social worker: a dermatovenerologist, a physician specialized in HIV testing and counselling, and a nurse.

Every day the mobile ambulatory has special bus routes in city Lviv and Lviv vicinity. It rides to the places where people of the vulnerable groups usually gather – routes, bars, hotels in Lviv, Drohobych, Mostys’ka, Truskavets’, Chervonohrad, Stryj … This year 1437 persons were tested for HIV, 1200 – for syphilis, 1000 – for Chlamydia, 1000 - for gonorrhea. 5% of all tests carried out for HIV were positive. These persons were referred to Lviv Regional AIDS Centre, although a positive predictive value of this rapid HIV test is 96%.
