HIV/AIDS problem is an urgent one in Ukraine. Our country has a high prevalence of HIV infection, which is spreading quickly. Most of the HIV-infected are young persons in the age 20-39 years. In order to raise awareness of this problem of Ukrainian society, on October 20, 2010 in Zolochiv an international scientific-practical conference “HIV/AIDS prevention: from experience exchange to common activities” was held. Representatives of Ukrainian health services and social systems, members of different Ukrainian NGOs and volunteers of Peace Corps (USA) carried out the conference. The audience consisted of teachers, pupils, students and activists of Zolochiv district.
The participants discussed HIV/AIDS epidemiological situation in Lviv region, and particularly in Zolochiv district, preventive actions carried out in educational institutions among vulnerable groups. Representatives of Peace Corps (USA) told about HIV/AIDS preventive activities which are provided in their country. CF ”Salus” members informed the participants about preventive programs and projects, which are being implemented nowadays.
