The status of the epidemic

Development of HIV epidemic in Lviv region has the same pattern as in a whole Ukraine. In 2012, Lviv region has officially registered 393 new cases of HIV infection (compared to 493 cases in 2011, 479 cases in 2010 and 462 cases in 2009), including 165 new AIDS cases in2012 (compared to 193 cases in 2011, 153 cases in 2010 and 118 cases in 2009).

            During 2011-2012 HIV incidence rate in Lviv region has decreased by 25.2% (from 19.4 to 15.5 per 100 thousand of population), while during 2009-2011 the HIV incidence rate had an increasing tendency (from18.2 in 2009 to 19.4 per 100 thousand of population in 2012; by 6.6%).

            During 2011-2012 AIDS incidence rate in Lviv region has also decreased by 14.5% (from 7.6 to 6.5 of new AIDS cases per 100 thousand of population). During the previous period AIDS incidence rate had increased by 61.7% (from 4.7 in 2009 to 7.6 newly registered AIDS cases in 2011 per 100 thousand of population).
