“WHAT TEENAGER SHOULD KNOW ” – PROGRAM ON IMPROVING KNOWLEDGE OF

YOUNGSTERS ON HIV/AIDS, STI AND VIOLENCE PREVENTION 

Project duration: 2007-2008

Partner: Lviv City Hall

Project goal: improving  of knowledge among youngsters on violence prevention, as well as on  HIV/AIDS and STIs prevention. The training for secondary and high school  are performed. 4 leaflets for free of charge distribution and  tutorials for facilitators have been produced.


Target group: 3 000 of teenagers and youngsters in age of 15-22.

AIDS  CLOSE TO YOU” –  HIV/AIDS PREVENTION IN LVIV REGION

Project duration: 2008

Partner: Secours Catholique Caritas France

Project goal: support of  the Crisis centre for women, providing women in crisis situation with medical, diagnostic, psychotherapeutical  services.
Improving  of level of knowledge on HIV/AIDS among population of the Lviv region, developing WAD celebration.

INTEGRATING DEVELOPMENT INTO SEXUAL HEALTH AND SEXUAL RIGHTS

Project goal:  Increasing knowledge on sexual health and sexual rights, spreading information about preventive programs of the countries of the European
Union and integration of  their experience in Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova, teaching youth trainers.

“The Girls’ world” - developing OF INTERACTIVE TRAINING-GAME FOR GIRLS

Project goal:increasing knowledge of girls on sexual and reproductive health, on violence prevention and human rights.

Target group: 14-17 years old girl that are studying in Lviv's schools, colleges,gymnasiums

RESPECT YOURSELF, PROTECT YOURSELF Project start: 1996
Partner: the Commetee Catolique contre la Faim et pour le Developpement (CCFD)
Services provided:
  • Publication of 8 booklets: HIV, Trichomona, Gonorrhea, Herpes, Papillomavirus, Chlamydia, Candida, Syphilis. The informational literature is distributed among youth and target groups, in schools and colleges to raise awareness of young people about STIs and HIV/AIDS danger in Ukraine.
  • Establishment of the informational Center on HIV/AIDS problems with library and video materials available
  • Trainings and round tables on the STIs and AIDS/HIV problems

CENTRE OF THE INFORMATIONAL SUPPORT FOR SEXUAL MINORITIES HIV-POSITIVES AND SEX-WORKERS Project start: 1997

UKRAINIAN DEPARTMENT OF THE European Information Center (EIC) "AIDS & YOUTH" Project start: 1997
Partner: the Embassy of Netherlands in Ukraine (project MATRA) and (EIC) AIDS & YOUTH from Netherlands
Services provided:
  • Trainings and seminars on safe sex
  • Distribution of the informational materials
  • Development of the library and video collection on the problems of AIDS
  • Support of the actions and events dedicated to the World AIDS day

RADIOCAMPAIGN "AIDS CLOSE TO YOU" Project start: 1999-2000
Partner: USAID, RADIO LUX Company
Services provided:
  • Twice a week - on Wednesdays and on Fridays at 9pm the information about AIDS prevention was broadcasted. The auditorium - appr. 850,000 people in 4 regions of Ukraine.

ESTABLISHMENT OF THE PEER-EDUCATORS NETWORK AMONG THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN LVIV, UKRAINE Project start: 2000-2001

Integration of the European Model of 
Psychotherapeutic Clinical Care into Psychiatric Healthcare of Lviv, Ukraine

Project w should be implemented during the period of two years. The following activities and events are planed to be developed during this time:

I. CONFERENCES 
During a two-year term of the project 3 national conferences with the participation of the foreign participants will be held.

Conference 1.

Title: Necessity and Perspectives of Introducing the European model of Psychotherapeutic Inpatient Clinic Into the Structure of Psychiatric Care in Ukraine.
Duration: 2 days.
Location: Lviv, Ukraine
Number of participants: 100 persons
Participants: representatives of project partners, including international experts (20 persons), representatives of Ministry of Health of Ukraine, directors of psychiatric care services from 25 regions of Ukraine (30 persons), physicians and nurses of Lviv Psychoneurologic Dispensary (LPD) and Lviv Regional State Clinical Psychiatric Hospital (LRSCPH), patients (50 persons).

Conference 2.

Title: Psychotherapeutic Inpatient Clinic - the First Year Experience.
Duration: 2 days.
Location: Lviv, Ukraine
Number of participants: 100 persons
Participants: representatives of project partners, including international experts (20 persons), representatives of Ministry of Health of Ukraine, directors of psychiatric care services from 25 regions of Ukraine (30 persons), physicians and nurses of Lviv Psychoneurologic Dispensary (LPD) and Lviv Regional State Clinical Psychiatric Hospital (LRSCPH), patients (50 persons).

Conference 3.

Title: LPD Reorganization Experience - Creating a European Psychotherapeutic Clinic.
Duration: 2 days.
Location: Lviv, Ukraine
Number of participants: 100 persons
Participants: representatives of project partners, including international experts (20 persons), representatives of Ministry of Health of Ukraine, directors of psychiatric care services from 25 regions of Ukraine (30 persons), physicians and nurses of Lviv Psychoneurologic Dispensary (LPD) and Lviv Regional State Clinical Psychiatric Hospital (LRSCPH), patients (50 persons).

Reports, conference presentations, and workshops' materials will be published as a special supplement to "Forum of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy" magazine founded by the Ukrainian Umbrella Association of Psychotherapists.
Conducting of the conferences will serve as instrument for summarizing and discussing the gained experience and its promotion among professionals, patients, and general population of both Lviv region and the rest of Ukraine. This will activate destigmatization of patients and the psychiatric field itself, develop education of both physicians and patients, and will become a practical and methodical move towards reorganization the psychiatric care system.

II. SCHOOL OF EUROPEAN EXPERIENCE: CREATING AND MANAGING THE PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC INPATIENT CENTRE.

During a two-year period, 2 schools will be held.
One of these will envisage 2 academic semesters and 1 supervision semester (5 days each) during the period of one year.
Location: Lviv, Ukraine
Instructors: trainers from EAP and Bonn Psychotherapeutic Clinic - 5 persons.
Participants: 5 groups of 10 persons each (total of 50 persons) 
2 groups for nurses from LPD and LRSCPH (20 persons)
2 groups for physicians from LPD and LRSCPH (20 persons)
1 group for directors of psychiatric care services from different regions of Ukraine (10 persons)

During a two-year period, 40 nurses, 40 physicians, 20 psychiatric care directors from all regions of Ukraine will be trained.
Holding of the school will allow educating medical personnel for practical reorganization and management of the psychotherapeutic inpatient clinic. Obtaining education by European standards will make treatment more effective, substantially improve the physician-patient relationship, and will become an important instrument of destigmatizing mentally ill individuals and the entire field of psychiatry.

III. TRANSLATION AND PUBLISHING OF LITERATURE

During a two-year period, the following items will be translated and published:
Manuals for physicians and nurses 5
Manuals for patients(2) and their families on the course and treatment of depression, 
Psychosomatic disorders, 100000 handouts
Posttraumatic stress disorder,
Personality disorders,
Schizophrenia,
Bipolar affective disorders.

IV. REORGANIZATION OF WORK AT LPD AND INTEGRATION OF THE MODEL OF PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC INPATIENT CENTRE.



The program AIDS-Elton John Foundation in Ukraine Project start: 2003
Executives of the program are:
NGO "Youth center of women initiatives", Sevastopol
NGO "Hope and salvation", Simferopol
NGO "Rainbow of life", Kharkiv
Charitable Foundation Salus, Lviv
    The program is introduced with the support of AIDS-Elton John Foundation. The aim of the program is fixing results and strengthening the effect of work of European Commission Project on HIV prevention among youth in Autonomous Republic Crimea, Donetsk, Lviv, Kharkiv regions and Sevastopol. The program will be developed under support of regional centers of AIDS prevention and regional education departments. Press clubs and round tables will be organized for representatives of regional, district and local education departments; school directors and teachers and other educational institutions. Activities will concern questions of social-economic influence of HIV/AIDS, support of existing prevention programs through educational work with parents.
 


KNOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF Project start: 2003
The project is performed with support of Freedom House under Polish American Ukrainian program PAUCI.
    The project is performed together with Polish and Ukrainian partners. The Polish partner is Tada - NGO dealing with target groups in the field of HIV/AIDS and STIs prevention. The Ukrainian partners are: NGO "Youth Center of Women Initiatives" Sevastopol, Regional Organization for Support of HIV infected, Donetsk. The project activity will be held in tree regions: Lviv, Donetsk and Sevastopol. The project is directed to improve professional qualification of teachers, medical and social workers and to perform prevention programs among young people and risk groups in Lviv, Donetsk and Sevastopol. Grantees should adapt successful models, worked out by Tada and will pass Ukrainian specialists methodology of developing of prevention programs among young people and risk groups (commercial sex workers, drug users, gays, lesbians). The project activities were developed regarding peculiarities of virus spreading and available informational recourses and services in each of the regions. That is why target group in all the places will be different - teachers and social workers - in Lviv, outreach workers - in Donetsk, social and medical workers - in Sevastopol.
DEVELOPMENT OF NETWORK OF INNOVATING SOCIAL SERVICES IN UKRAINE  Project start: 2004 
The project is performed with support of Secours Catholique Caritas France, ALC , Caritas Ukraine 
The project is supported by the TACIS IBÐP program of the European Commission. The main aims of the project are:
1) Providing women - victims of trafficking who return to Ukraine after their stay abroad with medical, diagnostic and social assistance.

2) Developing workshops "Let's talk about" on violence prevention for teachers and for secondary school students. 725 people from Lviv and Lviv region area should participate in the workshops.
